Pedestrian Crossing for Butlersbridge National School – Feeley

Fianna Fail Councillor, John Paul Feeley has welcomed the allocation of € 22,000 from the Action Plan for Rural Development to provide a pedestrian crossing and related safety measures at Butlersbridge National School. ‘This busy and growing school is located on the N54. There is a huge amount of traffic in the area and this obviously increases at school times. These measures will make it safer for those who walk to and from school and perhaps encourage others to do so also.’ ‘Given that the school has had a number of extensions there is a clear demand for improvements in pedestrian safety. I was delighted to help the local GAA club secure additional ground nearby from Cavan County Council to allow them to improve car parking and other facilities at their grounds which will also facilitate the school and graveyard.’ ‘I look forward to seeing all of these projects in the coming months.’ ENDS

Milltown to benefit from Traffic Calming & Road Safety Measures – Feeley

Councillor John Paul Feeley has welcomed the allocation of € 22,000 to develop a pedestrian link from Milltown National School to Drumlane Community Centre. The allocation will allow Cavan County Council to do further work in the Village of Milltown having already made provision for traffic calming measures such as flashing beacons, ramps and improved road marking. ‘I am very well aware of the number of children who move between Milltown NS to the nearby Community Centre to avail of childcare on a daily basis.’ ‘The Community Centre in Drumlane is a model for other communities combining childcare, community meeting rooms, children’s playground, community garden and impressive GAA grounds on one site adjacent to the village. This announcement will allow Cavan County Council add to the limited allocation already made for traffic calming to put in place comprehensive safety measures which will really enhance the ability of all of the local community to use these facilities.’ The area staff of Cavan County Council will now proceed to prepare detailed plans with a view to commencement early in 2017. The allocation comes from the Action Plan for Rural Development. ENDS

Council to commence work on footpath from Loreto College to Carrickane – Feeley

Fianna Fail Councillor, John Paul Feeley has confirmed that work will commence on Monday 5th December on a new footpath from the entrance to Loreto College on to the entrance road to the Cavan Sewerage Treatment Work. ‘The need to install footpaths and public lighting in this area has been highlighted for some time. Obviously with the challenging financial situation that we find ourselves in as a Council it has been difficult to secure funds. The Smarter Travel Initiative has provided enough resources of get this section of footpath completed at a cost in excess of €103,000. There will be an additional cost to install lighting.’ ‘This road has a very high level traffic and is not suitable for this in addition to the volume of pedestrians. This investment will improve safety for pedestrians and drivers alike. There is a need for other further investment in this area to extend the footpath and lighting more but that also requires cooperation from local landowners.’ ‘I acknowledge the huge efforts of Cavan County Council to secure the funding, develop plans meeting the environmental sensitivities and investing a great deal of time in working with landowners to progress this project.’ ‘I look forward to working with the Council Staff to continue to progress the provision of footpaths and lighting in the Carrickane area.’ Ends
