Scoil Naomh Padraig Green Flag

 

West Cavan Fianna Fáil Councillor, John Paul Feeley has congratulated the Principal, staff, Board of Management and Students of Scoil Naomh Padraig, Blacklion, on their receipt of a Green Flag from Cavan County Council.

‘I am very proud that Scoil Naomh Padraig, my own former National School has achieved a Green Flag Status in recognition of the efforts of the students and staff over the last number of years in increasing environmental awareness and putting this into practice through the reduction of waste and an ambitious programme of recycling.’

Scoil Naomh Padraig, Killinagh, is the primary school for the Blacklion and Doobally areas with a student population of 83 students and 4 full time teachers.

Neven Maguire, Blacklion native and Celebrity Chef was on hand to do the honours in the presence of the students, staff, members of the Board of Management, parents, Gerry O’Rourke, Litter Warder with Cavan County Council and invited guests.

“It is great to see a school community celebrate this achievement of excellence. Scoil Naomh Padraig has an excellent academic record and extremely dedicated and capable staff who encourage many extra curricular activities. The Green Flag Initiative, which Cavan County Council place huge importance, not only improve the school environment but will also ensure that these children bring their sense of environmental awareness from school into their homes. I congratulate all involved and in particular compliment Neven Maguire who, despite his very busy schedule, never forgets his native area and made time available to raise the Green Flag and also to talk to all of the children in the school. I wish him continued success in the future,’ stated Councillor Feeley.

Concluding, Councillor Feeley confirmed that Cavan County Council would provide additional compost bins to the school to assist the students in their efforts.

‘Gerry O’Rourke and his colleagues in the Environment Section of Cavan County Council are very anxious to help students and the community in creating greater environmental awareness and tackling litter. He and the staff of Scoil Naomh Padraig will continue there good work and I in particular encourage the children in their efforts,’ concluded Councillor Feeley.
